Four dead in mid-air collision over Asturias

Cause of accident unknown

Four Polish men were killed in a mid-air collision over Castrillón, Asturias, on Monday. The aircraft involved had Polish registrations and had left the Hondarribia airport in the Basque Country at 12.30pm en route to Vilar de Luz in Portugal.

Both of the downed planes alerted the control tower before crashing. The exact cause of the accident remains unknown, but weather conditions were poor. The first aircraft, a Cessna Skylane 182, crashed into a building at Castrillón airport while the other ended up on a nearby cliff.

A third aircraft belonging to the same party landed safely at Santander. Its pilots immediately traveled by car to Asturias.
