Britney Spears talks about her divorce for the first time: ‘I couldn’t take the pain anymore’
After a relationship of six years, the singer married the actor and model Sam Asghari in June last year. Their split was leaked on Wednesday. ‘I’ve been playing it strong for too long,’ said the singer
A little over 48 hours have passed since the leak of what, in a season of many breakups, has become one of the most publicized splits on the celebrity scene. If on Wednesday TMZ announced exclusively that Britney Spears and Sam Asghari had parted ways after a six-year relationship including 14 months of marriage, it was Asghari himself who confirmed it on Thursday. Now it is time to hear from the star at the center of the story, Britney Spears. Until today, the only thing that she had made public was her intention to buy a horse. It seems that two days later she has reacted and has been encouraged to respond to the media storm.
Spears, 41, has posted a few words on her Instagram profile, where she has 42 million followers, commenting on her divorce from Ashgari, 29. The text is accompanied by a video of her doing what she has done so many times for her fans in recent months: dancing in her living room. “As everyone knows, Hesam [in reference to Asghari] and I are no longer together,” Spears begins. “Six years with someone is a long time, so I’m a little shocked, but … I’m not here to explain myself because honestly, that’s nobody’s business !!! But, I couldn’t take the pain anymore, honestly.”
At times hard, at times ironic, at times sincere about the difficulties of the breakup, the artist continues: “In some sort of telepathic way I have been receiving many messages that melt my heart from friends, and I thank you.” In fact, in recent days famous people such as Paris Hilton (who attended her wedding in June 2022), the singer Pink, and the actress Octavia Spencer have publicly positioned themselves on Spears’ side in the divorce.
“I’ve been playing it strong for way too long and my Instagram may seem perfect, but that’s far from reality and I think we all know that,” the singer of number one hits such as Womanizer and Baby One more Time confesses. “I would love to show my emotions and my tears on how I really feel but for some reason I have always had to hide my weaknesses,” she says, before going on to attack her family, from whom she is estranged. “If I wasn’t my father’s strong soldier, I would be sent away to places to get fixed,” she writes, ironically after the 13 years of paternal custody to which she was subjected and which ended in the summer of 2021. “But that’s when I needed family the most. You’re supposed to be loved unconditionally ... not under conditions !!!!. So I will be as strong as I can and do my best. And I’m actually doing pretty damn good.” She ends her message (posted at 9 p.m from her home in Los Angeles, California) with, “have a good day and don’t forget to smile!!!”
The romance between the star and the model she met while filming a music video lasted six years during which he had become her main support, after the first strictly private and now openly public battle that she had with her father, especially, but also with his mother and with her sister, Jamie Lynn. But now the relationship has come to an end and it seems that it has done so irrevocably. Asghari himself filed the divorce suit last Wednesday, as reported in the U.S. media, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
In addition, in the legal document, leaked by People and the BBC, he asks her for “spousal support” and demands that she bear the legal costs of the divorce. In addition, Asghari “reserves the right to modify” some requests about their properties and about certain matters in common, which could mean that, despite the prenuptial agreement signed before their wedding in June 2022, he could ask for more than initially established. It is estimated that the singer has a fortune of more than $60 million. A fortune that, most likely, will grow by several figures when her autobiography hits the bookstores in October. It is not known if she will include her separation from Asghari, due to the timing of the separation and the book’s release. If not, we will just have to wait for part two.
