Atlanta, Feid and Messi: Everything ready for the inauguration of the Copa América 2024
The Colombian reguetonero will be in charge of energizing the fans before the start of the tournament
The Copa América 2024 promises to be the biggest edition of the championship ever seen, which has also generated anticipation over the opening ceremony. In previous editions, there have been impressive performances from popular artists, such as Karol G, who graced the opening ceremony in 2019. On this occasion, the reggaeton artist Feid — who will represent his country, Colombia — will be in charge of kicking off the party, bringing the Latin spirit to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the venue that will host the first game of the competition.
Located in Atlanta, Georgia, Mercedes-Benz Stadium is home to the NFL’s Falcons and Atlanta United of MLS, the league that has been responsible for popularizing soccer in the United States. The space has a capacity of up to 75,000 people, and has already been the center for other major events such as Super Bowl LIII, and will also be one of the stadiums used for the World Cup in 2026.
The event will begin with the opening ceremony, which is expected to be a great show, and will continue with the match between Argentina, the current world champion captained by Lionel Messi, and Canada, thus kicking off the tournament that will be staged in 14 U.S. cities and will last just under a month, with the final on July 14.
When does Copa América 2024 begin?
The Copa América begins on Thursday, June 20. The championship will continue until July 14, when the final match will be played.
What time does the opening ceremony of Copa América 2024 begin?
The opening ceremony will take place before the first match of the tournament, in which world champions Argentina will face Canada. The game will kick off at 8 p.m. ET. No specific time has been announced for the opening show. However, it is expected to take place between an hour to half an hour before the match starts, as has been the case in previous editions.
Who will perform at the Copa América 2024 ceremony?
Feid, the Colombian reggaeton artist, will be in charge of the opening musical performance, surprising many who were expecting Shakira, who performs one of the tournament’s official songs, Puntería. The artist, also known as Ferxxo, announced his participation on Instagram, which was shared by the event’s official account.
With an ascendant career over the last five years, the Latin Grammy Award nominee has collaborated with artists such as J Balvin, Bad Bunny, and his partner Karol G (who was one of the artists who opened the previous edition of the Copa America in 2019). Recently, Feid managed to sell out Madison Square Garden in New York as part of his Ferxxocalipsis World Tour, which has visited several cities in the United States and Canada.
Where to watch the ceremony?
The opening ceremony and match will be broadcast around the world, with several options on both television and streaming platforms. In the United States, the event will be available in English on FOX, FS1 and FS2, and in Spanish on Univision, Unimás, TUDN and their streaming options.
