Video | Chaos on Mexico’s Monterrey-Reynosa highway following attack on state police headquarters
A chase ended with several vehicles in flames and scores of motorists stranded for over four hours
On Sunday afternoon the highway that connects the Mexican states of Nuevo León and Tamaulipas was completely blocked by a truck and several cars that had caught fire near the town of General Bravo.
The first reports indicate that a group of armed men attacked the headquarters of the Civil Force, (an elite unit of the state police) located in the area known as General Tapia.
After the attack, the criminals fled along the road that leads to Cadereyta, and set fire to a truck and at least two private vehicles, causing the total closure of the highway and panic among motorists who were stranded for more than four hours.
The Mexican Army, the National Guard and the Civil Force implemented a joint operation in the area and located trucks and armored vehicles with signage alluding to the CDG (Gulf Cartel). So far authorities have not provided an official report of events, so it is unclear if there are any injuries or deaths.
