Percentage of Spaniards with over €1m in assets continues to grow
Despite the devastating effects of the crisis, with more than a quarter of Spain's active population unemployed, one section of Spanish society appears to be prospering. The number of high net-worth individuals in Spain - i.e., those who hold assets worth more than a million euros, excluding the value of their primary residence and other personal possessions - rose 5.4 percent in 2012, to 144,600 people, according to a study by Capgemini and RBC.
The report also found that levels of wealth reached record numbers worldwide in 2012, with the number of high net-worth individuals rising to 12 million people, which is a 9.2-percent global rise in 2012 compared to the previous year.
