Spain escapes from US piracy watchlist for second year

Trade Representative to publish "detailed report" on Spanish efforts to combat downloads

The Office of the United States Trade Representative has for the second year running left Spain off its piracy watchlist, which is formally known as the Special 301 Report and identifies deficiencies in the copyright legislation of foreign countries as well as proposing possible trade sanctions.

Spain was first included on the list in 2008, when it was identified by the United States for its apparent passivity in the battle against online piracy.

While Spain is not on the list this year, the US body said it would soon be publishing a detailed report on the "steps taken by Spain to combat internet piracy." These include the passing of new legislation to deal with sites that provide links to copyrighted material.
