ROYAL SCANDAL

Witness statement sees alibi of king’s son-in-law crumble

A business partner of Iñaki Urdangarin has revealed that he was asked to pretend he had received money for services provided to the Aguas de Valencia company.

Palma de Mallorca -

Court papers reveal that a business partner of Iñaki Urdangarin told the investigation into the king's son-in-law that a front man for the royal family member tried to convince him to tell the judge that he had received a sum of money for services provided to the Aguas de Valencia company.

But Álex Sánchez Mollinguer refused to do so, which has undermined one of Urdangarin's alibis with regard to a sum of 375,000 euros. The duke had claimed that the funds, which ended up in Swiss bank accounts, had not been paid to him by the company in question.

Urdangarin is currently the target of a criminal investigation into the embezzlement of 2.3 million euros from the Balearic Islands regional government through a now-defunct non-profit organization, the Nóos Institute, which was managed by the duke.
