This week's movie releases

Messing with our minds this week is director Len Wiseman with Total Recall, a remake of Paul Verhoeven's 1990 sci-fi action thriller - itself based on Philip K. Dick's story We Can Remember It for You Wholesale. Stepping into Arnold Schwarzenegger's shoes is Colin Farrell as Douglas Quaid, a blue-collar joe married to Kate Beckinsale (aka Mrs Len Wiseman) for whom life becomes a blur of fantasy and reality after he visits an agency specializing in artificial memory implants. Quaid finds himself on the run from the law and teaming up with resistance fighter Jessica Biel to find rebel leader Bill Nighy and bring down the leader of the free world, Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston).

 There's a flurry of French releases out this week. From directing duo Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte, Le prénom is a comedy about prospective first-time father Vicent (Patrick Bruel), who unleashes chaos when he reveals the name of his unborn child to his family.

In French-Israeli drama A Bottle in the Gaza Sea, Tal, a French teenager living in Jerusalem who witnesses a terrorist attack, finds her message-in-a-bottle about violence answered by a young Palestinian in Gaza.

Finally, two homegrown efforts. Starring Pepe Soriano and Carmelo Gómez, Diego Yaker's Pecados concerns two young lovers in a Spanish village populated by old timers and hiding a mystery. Meanwhile, Maru Solores' Camera obscura follows inquisitive 13-year-old blind girl Ane as she discovers photography with her father's cousin one summer and uncovers what no one wants to acknowledge.
