Monarch gives driver slap on arm on arrival at headquarters of highway authority

King Juan Carlos got involved in a spat with his chauffeur on Thursday as he arrived at an event at the headquarters of the DGT highway authority.

The monarch was seen chastising his driver and giving him a light slap on the left arm inside the vehicle as it pulled up at the institution, seemingly unhappy about the spot where he was being left.

The king’s arrival was greeted by around 40 civil servants from the DGT and the adjacent National Statistics Institute who were protesting against government cuts affecting their Christmas bonus payments and personal days.
