Government gets back control of Guadalquivir

Andalusia claim ruled illegal

The government has resumed authority over and administration of the Guadalquivir River and its estuary waters, ending a legal battle that had been settled by the Constitutional Court earlier this year.

The Cabinet approved a decree that puts the waters back under the control of the state administration. In March, the top court justices declared unconstitutional a clause in the Andalusian statute which gave the regional government full control of the river, but it took more than six months for the central and regional governments to agree how the transfer would take place.
