Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs crowned Super Bowl champions against Philadelphia Eagles (35-38) after a hectic game
Philadelphia quarterback, Jalen Hurts, was the star of the first half with a tremendous display to lead 24-14. Rihanna lit up the stage with the halftime show, before the Chiefs produced a great comeback in the second half
The Super Bowl LVII belongs to the Kansas City Chiefs after beating the Philadelphia Eagles at State Farm Stadium in Glendale (Arizona) by a score of 38-35. A field goal in the final seconds ultimately gave the victory to Mahomes’ team, despite the Eagles dominating the game and the scoreboard (24-14) until halftime. At the start of the third quarter, the Chiefs got off to a strong start and closed the gap (24-21), before another Philadelphia field goal reopened it (27-21) at the end of the third quarter. It didn’t last too long, as in the last quarter the Chiefs took the lead with two consecutive touchdowns (27-35), scoring with every possession they had in the second-half. The Eagles tied it with another touchdown by QB Jalen Hurts -who broke a Super Bowl record by being the first quarterback to rush three touchdowns in a single championship game- and a two-point conversion to follow-up. However, a decisive field goal with eight seconds on the clock in favor gave the Chiefs the victory.
Patrick Mahomes, crowned player of the season, takes over generationally from Tom Brady in his retirement year with his second Super Bowl. He is the first black quarterback to win the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy twice. It was a bitter defeat for Philadelphia, as the city’s teams had already lost the baseball and soccer finals (on penalties) earlier this season.

Thank you for following Super Bowl LVII with EL PAÍS
This is it for our live broadcast of Super Bowl LVII. The Kansas City Chiefs have once again been crowned NFL champions. It is their third trophy overall in what was their third appearance in four years after becoming American Conference (AFC) champions once again this season. They won the 54th edition in 2020 against the 49ers, lost the next one to the Buccaneers and last year failed to reach the final that was won by the Los Angeles Rams against the Cincinnati Bengals. This time around, after finishing first in the AFC in the regular season, they eliminated the Jacksonville Jaguars (27-20) and the Bengals (23-20) to reach today's final.
Thank you for following our live coverage of the game and halftime show. Good night.

Chiefs' quarterback and leader is named Most Valuable Player of the Super Bowl. The tradition of naming a player from the winning team continues despite Jalen Hurts' stellar performance which saw him break a Super Bowl record by rushing three times into the end zone, plus an extra two-point conversion.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS ARE SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS
Jalen Hurts tried a Hail Mary pass in desperation. But the pass is short and not near any receiver.
Just like that, the Kansas City Chiefs, who trailed during most of the game, are crowned Super Bowl champions.
All down to a field goal attempt: CONVERTED
At 1st and goal, Mahomes kneels to keep the clock going.
And with 8 seconds left, Butker converts his kick to get the Chiefs ahead (38-35).
The Eagles need an eight-second miracle now.
The rush
Here is Mahomes finding space and running into it for a 26 yard gain.

Mahomes rushes 26 yards
On the Philadelphia 43, it looks like the Eagles defense is about to sack Mahomes, but he scrambles away and runs 26 yards, by the end of his run he looks like he's limping. Nothing to worry about, the yards are gained. The Chiefs are at the Eagles 17. They hand the ball to Pacheco who takes the ball to the Philadelphia 15.
TOUCHDOWN EAGLES AND TWO-POINT CONVERSION ATTEMPT: 35-35
After the now traditional touchback, Hurts is sacked for a yard on first down. 1st & 11, with the Eagles at their own 35. Hurts finds Brown with a short pass, who ends up picking up seven yards. On third down, Hurts connects with Brown again and he picks up 11 yards, getting to the Kansas 47.
Then, almost out of nowhere, Hurts finds Smith for a 47 yard gain that puts the Eagles at the Kansas City 1. On the next play, Hurts rushes in for a touchdown. His third in the game if you weren't paying attention. That's a new Super Bowl record for rushing touchdowns by a QB. But they still need a two-point conversion to tie it up. Of coure, Hurts runs it in himself and it's all level at 35-35.
TOUCHDOWN CHIEFS
And indeed, after a little scare with not being able to gain yards while only five away from the end zone, Mahomes repeats the strategy with a quick short pass, this time for Moore, who walks the ball for a touchdown. The extra point is good and the Chiefs get to 35-27.
Toney's amazing run
Enjoy what might end up being the game-changing moment.

Short possesion for the Eagles and amazing 65-yard punt return by Toney
After yet one more touchback, Hurts finds Pascal for a two-yard gain to get to 3rd & 2. At that point, Hurts has to run from defenders and throw the ball away to avoid a deep sack. Then we get a rare sight of the Eagles punter.
Toney catches the ball and returns the punt all the way to the Philadelphia 5. That’s 65 yards and almost a touchdown. Surely the Chiefs will manage to make those 6 yards to get further ahead.

TOUCHDOWN CHIEFS
Mahomes keeps going for Simon-Schuster, who gets the ball to the Philadelphia 9. Next play, McKinnon gets to the Philadelphia 5. 3rd & 3. Maybe the biggest play in the Chief's season and Mahomes calmly finds an amazingly free Toney for a walk-in touchdown. The extra point is good and Kansas City now has a one-point lead with justo ver 12 minutes to go.
Philadelphia field goal
Here is the field goal that ended Philadelphia's last attack and which gave them the six point lead they currently enjoy.

FIELD GOAL EAGLES
The Eagles settle for a field goal after a nearly eight-minute offensive drive that took up much of the third quarter. 27-21. Will Mahomes have time for his comeback?
Crucial review
Hurts scrambles on first down, picking up a yard. Then he airs one out to Watkins, who has the ball briefly but drops it. That would have put them on the doorstep of a touchdown. 3rd and 9. There’s a flag on the play as the Eagles couldn’t get the play off on time. Five yard penalty.
Hurts needs to make a big throw and he does, finding Goedert at the Kansas City 30 for a 17-yard gain. But Andy Reid has challenged it, hoping for an incomplete pass call, as the receiver was barely inside the field of play at the moment of the catch.
After a few minutes of deliberation, the ruling on the field stands. The Chiefs lose their challenge and a timeout, while the Eagles fin themselves at the Kansas City 30.
Fumble on first down and touchdown... then not
The Eagles start at their own 25 after yet another touchback. Jalen Hurts throws a pass to Sanders that gets dropped and returned for a touchdown. But, after the celebrations, the play is under review.
And it is judged that the receiver did not have possession, so it was just an incomplete pass. The Eagles continue on the attack.
TOUCHDOWN CHIEFS
Game on. The Chiefs were never going to give up easily.
On 2nd & 3, Mahomes sees the play collapse around him and runs for a gain of four yards. Then, close to the end zone Mahomes finds McKinnon, hoping for the touchdown. Instead, he picks up just a yard. It doesn’t matter, on the next play, Pacheco rushes it in.
24-21. Everything is to play for with just under 10 minutes of the third quarter to go.
Second half under way: the Chiefs looking for a comeback
The Chiefs begin the second half on the attack. They have to push for a comeback and they get off to a great start, advancing steadily with a combination of rushing and passing plays.
Mahomes looks to be all right after the scare at the end of the first half.
Rihanna lights up the night
Its hit after hit for Rihanna. “Only Girl (In the World)”, “We Found Love”, "Where Have You Been", "Rude Boy,” “Work,” “Wild Thoughts”...
One of the big questions was whether she would include "Umbrella", the song that made her a superstar. And, yes, she played it, right before "Diamonds", which closed the show.

Floating stages and Rihanna in red
Rihanna's show starts in the air. On a set of floating stages the singer appears to be flying over the field of play. With a crew of dozens of back-up dancers dressed in white, which contrasts with her own all-red outfit, cut-down versions of hits follow one after the other. With 13 minutes at her disposal, this seems like the only way to "jam-pack" the show with all the fan favorites, as she promised in the days leading up to the show.

Rihanna, you're on
The moment has arrived: Rihanna is about to jump onto the Super Bowl stage. It's been six years since she last released an album and seven years since she last performed live. All eyes are on the 13-minute musical performance on the stage with the biggest exposure in American pop culture.
Philadelphia extends their lead to 10
Elliott scores a 35-yard field goal with the last breath of the half and Philadelphia get further ahead, 24-14. The birds are flying.
Hurts keeps up it up before halftime
The Eagles try to extend the lead before halftime. Hurts throws a long pass to Smith for 35 yards, who receives under pressure. The referees, however, declare the reception incomplete. Third down and one yard to go.
Hurts gains a new 1st & 10 with a play he masters, the QB Sneak. The quarterback takes a dive with the ball over the middle for a one-yard gain. He has done it successfully 33 of 37 opportunities on the season.
The Eagles are at the Kansas City 46 with a fresh set of downs but just seconds on the clock. Hurts’s first pass is incomplete. On the second, he finds Smith, who has caught six passes so far already. With half-time looming, the Eagles take a timeout.

Mahomes in trouble
Mahomes throws incomplete, 2nd & 10. False start, this time on the Chiefs. That’s a five-yard penalty. 2nd & 15, Then Mahomes escapes pressure but has to throw it away. 3rd & 15 at the KC 31. Mahomes has to produce some magic.
Instead, he gets rattled by the Eagles’ defense and scrambles until he’s taken down. When he gets up, he starts limping. Concern in the Kansas corner as Mahomes was already carrying a knock to his ankle coming into the game.
Meanwhile, the Eagles call a timeout before the Chiefs punt. Covey returns the punt to the Philadelphia 43: it’s a 27-yard gain for Philadelphia while the Kansas City staff attends to the MVP.

The stadium sings "MVP, MVP"
Our very own Luis Pablo Beauregard tells us the crowd at State Farms, which is hosting a sizable Philadelphia fan base, is chanting "MVP, MVP," at Jalen Hurts' impressive display.
The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen has been the absolute star of the second quarter for better and worse. Right out of the blocks, he threw a great touchdown pass with only 8 seconds of the 15 minutes gone. On the next drive, a fumble allowed the Chiefs to tie it. But he made up for his mistake with a great 28-yard run to get a first down and then a short run to put himself in the end zone.
TOUCHDOWN EAGLES
Hurts is claiming his place in the story of this Super Bowl almost single-handedly. This time, at 1st & Goal, after some slow gains and benefiting from a neutral zone infraction, the Philadelphia quarterback finds some space and slips right through the defense for a touchdown.
1st and 10. Gainwell picks up three yards. 2nd and 7, Hurts finds Smith for a four-yard gain. Crucial 3rd and 3 at the Kansas City 9. Scott only picks up a single yard. 4th and 2, the Eagles offense. The extra point is good and the Eagles are back in the lead 21-14.
Hurts adds rushing yards once again
Another kickoff. Another touchback. The Eagles offense is back out there at their 25. On the first play, Hurts runs for a 14-yard gain and a first down.
Then, on 2 & 8, the Eagle's 24 year-old QB decides to turn into running back, escapes a few tackles and rushes 28 yards for a first down once again, edging closer to the Chiefs endzone and adding a total of 57 rushing yards on the day.
Hurts fumble and TOUCHDOWN CHIEFS
Scratch that. Fearless Hurts drops the ball for a fumble which linebacker Nick Bolton picks-up and then runs with for 36 yards to get his first ever NFL touchdown. The extra point is good and the game is tied with just over nine minutes left in the second quarter.
Hurts shows no fear
Under pressure from Kansas' defensive line, Hurt's loses protection in the sack, but he shows his skill by evading the oncoming Chiefs players and throwing a nine yard pass for a first down as he jumps.

The pressure is on Mahomes
The Chiefs fail to get a first down. Mahomes is not finding clear options and his team are forced to punt the ball. The Eagle's Covey catches and runs to his own 33rd yard.
