Twitter suspends Kanye West for ‘incitement to violence’
The rapper had published an image of a Nazi Swastika merged with the Star of David and praised Hitler on ‘Infowars’
Twitter on Friday suspended the account of Kanye West, also known as Ye, after the American rapper posted an image showing a Nazi Swastika merged with the Star of David, as announced by the owner of the social media company, Elon Musk.
West’s antisemitic post came hours after he stated in an interview on the Infowars program, hosted by the American conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, that he admired things about Adolf Hitler. “I see good things about Hitler also. This guy that invented highways, invented the very microphone that I use as a musician, you can’t say out loud that this person [n]ever did anything good, and I’m done with that.”
“Just clarifying that his account is being suspended for incitement to violence, not an unflattering pic of me being hosed by Ari,” tweeted Musk about the decision to suspend West’s account, alluding to other tweets by the rapper showing pictures of a bare-chested Musk.
At the end of November, Musk announced that he had decided to reinstate Donald Trump on Twitter after the result of a survey carried out on the social app by Musk himself. The former US president had been permanently suspended after the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Trump, however, has an exclusive agreement with Truth Social, his own network.
West recently entered a spiral of antisemitism that has cost him, among other things, his lucrative deal with Adidas. Shortly after the German firm issued a statement announcing it would be ending its creative and commercial relationship with Yeezy, the rapper’s label, West’s career as a musician, designer and celebrity was well and truly over.
