NBA All Star Game 2024: Schedule, slam dunk and the All-Star teams

Every midseason, the best of the best in the American professional basketball league come together for a weekend to showcase their skills on the court. The All-Star Weekend, a weekend that includes skills contests, a whirlwind Future Stars Tournament and the All-Star Game as the main event, lands at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, home of the Indiana Pacers from Friday, February 16 through Sunday, February 18.

After trying different formats to configure the quintets that make up the All-Star Game, this edition will return to the classic format, which pits the best players from the Eastern Conference against the best players from the Western Conference. Furthermore, the NBA will debut a new three-point competition, a head-to-head matchup between the two best long-distance shooters in history: Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors against Sabrina Ionescu, the New York Liberty point guard of the WNBA, the women’s basketball league.

Where to watch the NBA All-Star Game?

The NBA All-Star Game will be broadcast on TNT and on stream on TNTdrama.com. The NBA League Pass, the league’s official pay-per-view service, will offer the original broadcast for smart TV, cell phone and tablet.

Rising Stars

The weekend action kicks off on Friday, February 16 at 9:00 p.m. EST with the Rising Stars, a mini-tournament that pits four teams made up of rookies, second-year players and players from the NBA G League, the NBA’s developmental league. The format will feature three games: two semifinals and the grand final to decide the champion.

The three teams with rookies and second-year NBA players will be led by three NBA legends: Pau Gasol, Jalen Rose and WNBA Hall of Fame inductee Tamika Catchings, while former NBA player Detlef Schrempf of Germany will lead the G League quintet. The Rising Stars games will not be played until the clock runs out, but will be played on a point-objective basis. While the semifinals are set at 40 points, the final, which will start at 9:00 p.m. and will pit the winners of the two teams against each other, will be decided at 25 points.

Skills competition

Saturday’s activity begins at 6:00 p.m. with the skills competition, a rally where three teams of three players will compete to showcase their ball skills. This year, the teams will consist of a local trio representing the Pacers consisting of Tyrese Haliburton, Bennedict Mathurin and Myles Turner; a trio of three first overall picks from the last four drafts (Victor Wembanyama, Paolo Banchero and Anthony Edwards) and an All-Star team with Scottie Barnes, Tyrese Maxey and Trae Young.

3 point contest

After the skills competition, reigning champion Damian Lillard will seek to renew his crown in the three-point contest against seven of the league’s best shooters, who will compete to make as many three-pointers as possible against the clock from different angles. The three-point contest will start at 7:00 p.m. This year’s participants are:

Following the three-point contest, Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu, each holding the all-time record for three-point shots in their respective leagues, will compete in an unprecedented head-to-head long-range shooting contest.

Slam Dunk

Saturday closes with the most iconic event of the All-Star Game, the Slam Dunk. The contest, which has seen stars such as Michael Jordan and Vince Carter crowned with acrobatic dunks and jumps to overcome obstacles such as cars, people or team mascots, will feature four participants: Jaylen Brown (Celtics), Mexican-American Jaime Jaquez Jr. (Heat), Jacob Toppin (Knicks) and the revelation of the previous edition, defending champion Mac McClung of the NBA G League.

The All-Star Game

The All-Star Game will take place on Sunday, February 18 at 7:00 p.m., when the Eastern Conference team, led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, takes on its Western Conference counterpart, with LeBron James as captain. Those selected as starters for the game through a survey of fans, players and specialized media are:
