The United States will host the Copa America again in 2024
The tournament will include six teams from North and Central America and the Caribbean, including Mexico, which returns after two editions
The best soccer in the Americas will once again gather in the United States. Concacaf and Conmebol announced on Friday that the next edition of the Copa América, in 2024, will be held in the United States and will include six teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean, among them the Mexican national team. The cooperation between the two American confederations seeks to pave the way for the 2026 World Cup to be organized jointly by Mexico, the US and Canada.
It will be the second time in history that the great American soccer tournament will be played in the United States. The first time was in 2016 to celebrate the centennial of the tournament, the same year when the Mexican national team stopped attending due to a conflict between Conmebol and Concacaf. The Mexican team had been a regular guest participant since the 1993 event. In 2016, Chile was crowned against Argentina after beating them on penalties. Now, it will be Messi’s Argentina that arrives as the Copa América and World Cup champion.
The agreement between Conmebol and Concacaf will also boost the women’s Gold Cup, played in the northern tip of the continent. The four best teams from South America (Brazil, Colombia, Argentina and Paraguay) will join the US, Mexico and Canada for this tournament. At men’s club level, there will be a new tournament between four teams, two from each federation.
