The new volcano in La Palma began to erupt at 3.12pm on Sunday September 19 in Montaña Rajada in La Palma in Spain’s Canary Islands, which are located off the northwestern coast of Africa. A small earthquake preceded the eruption, in Las Manchas neighborhood in El Paso. A huge explosion followed, and then a column of smoke appeared along with the expulsion of airborne particles known as pyroclasts. Since then lava has been flowing toward the coast, and finally reached the sea on Tuesday night.
