Sevilla FC on Monday sacked its coach, Míchel, after a disappointing run of results that has left the club in the bottom half of the table, four points off the relegation places. Since thumping local rival Betis 5-1 in November, Sevilla has been the poorest performer in Primera, picking up four points from a possible 21.

Club president José María del Nido announced that former Valencia coach Unai Emery will take over from Míchel. Emery, who was sacked by Spartak Moscow in November, has been handed an 18-month contract by the Andalusian club.
