24 series to keep track of in 2024

From the return of ‘True Detective’ and ‘House of the Dragon’ to the premieres of ‘3 Body Problem’ and ‘Elsbeth,’ we review some of the most notable releases of the coming months

It is impossible to know how a year will go, but we can predict that in 2024 there will be a lot of television and many series to watch, although not as many as in previous years. We review what is coming this year. We’ve narrowed it down to 24 titles, but many that might be released in the coming months have not even been announced or confirmed yet. For example, Stranger Things begins filming its final season very soon, but it is not yet known when it will premiere. For now, here are some titles that should be on your radar.

The Curse

Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder star in this uncomfortable satire that follows a couple of newlyweds who are trying to build a community of environmentally friendly homes while recording a TV show. But their relationship is dogged by an alleged curse. January 5, on SkyShowtime.

Criminal Record

This crime thriller delves into racial and social issues. The series stars Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo, who play two police officers with different styles, whose lives intersect when a phone call for help reopens an old case. January 10, on Apple TV+.

Echo

The protagonist of the new Marvel series is a deaf Native American woman with powers, Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), whom we previously saw in Hawkeye. Maya returns home to face her family and legacy while being pursued by Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio). January 10, on Disney+.

True Detective: Night Country

Mexican Issa López takes over as the series’ creative director, scriptwriter, and director. The new installment, set in Alaska, stars Jodie Foster as a detective who has to investigate the disappearance of eight men from an Arctic Research Station. January 15, on HBO Max.

Masters of the Air

The team behind Band of Brothers and The Pacific is reunited in this drama, which follows the story of a group of bombers who helped defeat Nazi Germany in World War II while dealing with extreme conditions in battles at 25,000 feet. January 26, on Apple TV+.

Feud: Capote vs. The Swans

Tom Hollander plays Truman Capote in this series based on the confrontation between the writer and a group of women from New York high society, whom he betrayed by publishing their secrets in the story La Côte Basque in 1965. Watch out for the glittering cast that includes: Naomi Watts, Calista Flockhart, Demi Moore, Diane Lane, and Chloë Sevigny. January 31 in the U.S.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Two spies embark on different missions after becoming the Smiths in a marriage of convenience. Together they will combine the danger of their work and the difficulties of their relationship, while their true feelings toward each other begin to emerge. This adaptation from the film of the same name stars Maya Erskine and Donald Glover, who is also as the series co-creator. February 2, on Amazon Prime Video.

One Day

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, this romantic British production is based on the novel of the same name that follows the love story of Emma and Dexter, who meet on the night of their graduation. Although they take different paths, their lives will continue to intertwine over the next 20 years. February 8, on Netflix.

The New Look

Series about fashion designers are a trend in 2024. Cristóbal Balenciaga (January 19 on Disney+) is a biographical series about the Spanish style icon, and Kaiser Karl (currently filming for Disney+) tells the story of Karl Lagerfeld. Meanwhile, The New Look focuses on the relationship between Christian Dior, Coco Chanel and their contemporaries, among whom are Balenciaga himself and Balmain. Ben Mendelsohn, Juliette Binoche, John Malkovich, Emily Mortimer, and Maisie Williams are among the series’ stellar cast. February 14, on Apple TV+.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Young Avatar Aang must learn to command the four elements, Water, Earth, Fire and Air, to restore balance to a world threatened by Fire Lord Ozal in this fantasy odyssey. February 22, on Netflix.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live

There are even more stories of the survivors of the zombie apocalypse to come. This time, Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira are in the lead roles as Rick and Michonne, whose love story is told in the series. February 26 on AMC+.

Shogun

Set in 1600s Japan, the series follows Lord Yoshii Toranaga, who fights against his enemies in the Council of Regents. The secrets brought by a mysterious European ship commanded by the Englishman John Blackthorne could shift the balance of power definitively in Toranaga’s favor. At the center of everything is the translator Lady Mariko. February 27, on Disney+.

Elsbeth

A new series from Robert and Michelle King is always a cause for celebration, especially if it is another story spun off from The Good Wife, and even more so if it has the lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni in the lead. This peculiar lawyer helps the New York police capture criminals. Carrie Preston and Wendell Pierce head the cast. February 29 in the U.S.

Kate Winslet in 'The Regime.'

The Regime

Kate Winslet stars in this six-episode satirical series that follows a year inside the palace of a modern European regime at the moment when it begins to fall apart. Will Tracy (Succession, The Menu) is the creator of this series directed by Stephen Frears and Jessica Hobbs. March 4 on HBO Max.

Palm Royale

Set in Palm Beach, the series tells the story of one woman’s struggle to enter high society. The show poses the question: how much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to have what others have? The A-list cast includes Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Josh Lucas, and Ricky Martin. March 20, on Apple TV+.

3 Body Problem

The decision made by a young woman in China in the sixties has an impact on a group of present-day scientists who meet again to face the greatest threat in the history of humanity. Game of Thrones creators, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, are at the helm of the adaptation of Chinese writer Liu Cixin’s literary saga. March 21 on Netflix.

The Fallout

The adaptation of the video games of the same name is set 200 years after the apocalypse. The inhabitants of nuclear fallout shelters must return to the place that their ancestors abandoned, now transformed into a strange, complex, and very violent world. April 12, on Amazon Prime Video.

Bridgerton

Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton are the lovebirds in the third season of this Regency romance. The youngest Miss Featherington is determined to find a husband. Meanwhile, the young Mr. Bridgerton has returned from his travels. When he sees that Penelope is turning her back on him, he offers to help her build the confidence necessary to find a husband. Part one, May 16; part two, June 13; on Netflix.

Ripley

Andrew Scott stars in the series based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel The Talented Mr. Ripley. Italy in the 1950s is the setting for a con man who is hired by a millionaire to convince his son to return home. The first images of this adaptation shared by the platform are in black and white. On Netflix.

The House of the Dragon

The second season of the prequel to Game of Thrones, which focuses on the Targaryen dynasty, continues the war between Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower. The last time we saw Rhaenyra, her son had just been killed. Her revenge will surely be terrible. Summer; on HBO Max.

Yellowstone

The last season of the much-followed modern western starring the Duttons will finally see the light of day at the end of the year after overcoming various obstacles. They will do it without Kevin Costner, who left the series. Although this story ends, the Yellowstone universe will continue in several spin-off series. In November on SkyShowtime.

Disclaimer

Cate Blanchett plays a television documentary journalist who discovers that a story from her past, which she thought was dead and buried, is about to come to light in a new novel. Alfonso Cuarón is the writer and director of this series that also stars Kevin Kline, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jung Ho-yeon, and Lesley Manville. On Apple TV+.

Renegade Nell

The new series from Sally Wainwright, creator of Happy Valley, is an 18th-century adventure drama about a woman and her two sisters who lead the life of highwaymen. She will cross paths with Queen Anne and will play a fundamental role in the power struggle being waged in Europe. On Disney+.

Of Blood and Money

French series starring Vincent Lindon, based on the true story of the controversial carbon tax scam that took place between 2008 and 2009. The series is based on a million-dollar fraud that was perpetrated in the CO₂ quota rights exchange market. January 30, on Filmin.
