This is our selection of the best series you can watch in November 2023.
All the Light We Cannot See
The destinies of Marie-Laurie, a young blind French woman, and Werner, a teenage boy recruited by the Nazi army to track illegal radio broadcasts, will be united by a shortwave radio broadcast. Marie and her father flee Paris and take refuge in Saint-Malo with her great-uncle, a war veteran who lives locked in his house. Werner’s life, orphaned and separated from his sister, has not been easy either, but he manages to keep his ideals and his idealism intact despite the circumstances. Set against the backdrop of World War II, this four-episode series that adapts the Pulitzer-winning novel of the same name is an ode to hope, kindness and human connections.
Where and when to watch it? It premieres on Thursday, November 2, on Netflix.
A Murder at the End of the World
A young hacker and amateur detective receives a mysterious invitation from a millionaire to participate in a retreat in a remote part of Iceland. She accepts, motivated by her interest in meeting the host’s wife. Eight other people travel there, but on their first night, one of the guests is found dead. She will put her skills into practice to prove that it is a murder. Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, co-creators of The OA, are the brains behind this seven-episode story starring Emma Corrin, with Clive Owen and Brit Marling herself as the mysterious host couple. A disturbing and interesting twist on the classic whodunit.
Where and when to watch it? Starting November 14 on Hulu, with weekly episodes.
The Crown
The series about the reign of Elizabeth II comes to an end, and it will be divided into two parts: the first four episodes, which will be available in November, focus on Princess Diana and how her relationship with Dodi Al-Fayed became the obsession of the paparazzi. A trip to Paris with fatal consequences changes everything, and the queen is caught by surprise by the enormous pain that spreads throughout the country. The second part of the season will show the evolution of William and Kate’s relationship, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and the wedding of Charles and Camilla.
Where and when to watch it? The first part (four episodes) premieres on Thursday, November 16, on Netflix. The second part (six episodes) will arrive on December 14.
Fellow Travelers
A love story mixed with a political thriller. The series starts in the 1980s, with the two protagonists already separated for a long time, to immediately move on to the beginnings of an intermittent relationship that spans several decades. The charismatic Hawkins Fuller and the idealist Tim Laughlin met in the 1950s at the height of McCarthyism and its fight against what it considered subversive and sexually deviant elements. It is in this environment that a homosexual relationship emerges, and it will have to be kept a secret: Hawkins is about to get engaged to a woman, and has a budding political career ahead of him.
Where and when to watch it? The first episode premiered on Paramount+ on October 27.
Fargo
Since 2014, screenwriter Noah Hawley has been creating stories inspired by the spirit of the film that the Coen brothers released in 1996. Three years after the latest installment, a fifth season arrives. The action takes place in 2019 and stars Juno Temple, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Temple plays a housewife trying to escape her past. The North Dakota sheriff (Hamm) tries to find the woman, who also has to deal with a mother-in-law (Jason Leigh) whose opinion of her is not particularly good. The series returns to what it does best: ordinary characters overcome by extreme, surreal circumstances.
Where and when to watch it? Tuesday, November 21 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on FX, with episodes available the next day on Hulu.
