Gwyneth Paltrow’s eccentric Christmas gift list: A $30,000 sex chair, a sack of fertilizer and a leg of ham
Every year, the businesswoman publishes a striking list of products for followers of the Goop website. On this occasion, it ranges from $18 for neon-colored toilet paper to $300,000 for a trip to New Zealand
Gwyneth Paltrow’s extravagant selection of festive gifts has become as common as Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas. This year, the actress and lifestyle guru hasn’t disappointed with a new array of products, all of which are available on the Goop website. “The Ridiculous but Awesome Gift Guide,” which she has been publishing since 2015, includes 40 items.
The combined value of the list’s items exceeds $900,000. There are options for all tastes and pockets, though cheap stocking fillers are not abundant. The most expensive gifts are a trip to New Zealand for $292,000, a classic Ford Bronco for $250,000 or a private jet safari experience for $135,000 a night in South Africa. The cheapest is a set of six neon-colored toilet paper rolls for a price of $18. And don’t forget the pets: Paltrow includes a kit of hair dye for dogs, approved by canine dermatologists, for $50.
Among more eccentric products, the Oscar winner recommends a sex chair named Kiki de Montparnasse (similar to the literary character) valued at almost $30,000 and a Gucci bag to collect dog feces for a modest price of $420. A four-kilo bag of manure of various types – which retails for €75 – also features on the list. And if your fridge is too small, the actress recommends an underground cellar (buried in the ground and accessed through a ladder) for $15,900: the website describes it as an innovative version of the traditional root cellar. Spanish products also appear on the list: Paltrow, who once studied in Talavera de la Reina, suggests gifting a $300 jamón serrano.
On top of this this quirky section, Paltrow includes various guides catered to men, cooking enthusiasts, hosts, travel lovers and children. For the men’s section, she recommends a razor valued at $450. The product uses the same blades as any other, but the handle is plated with 24-carat gold.
For those with tighter budgets, Paltrow also provides a list of products for less than $100, such as a glass to plant avocados, priced at $50. And if anyone is after a new pair of slippers, they can always treat themselves to the ones Gwyneth offers for $96.
For years, Paltrow’s marketing strategy has been a success. In 2020, she designed a controversial scented candle she called This Smells Like My Vagina. Despite its high price ($75), the product sold out in hours. “With a funny, gorgeous, sexy, and beautifully unexpected scent, this candle is made with geranium, citrusy bergamot, and cedar absolutes juxtaposed with Damask rose and ambrette seed to put us in mind of fantasy, seduction, and a sophisticated warmth,” said the accompanying text. It seems that everything Paltrow touches turns to gold, so she can afford all the eccentricities she wants.
