Over the last seven days, Spain’s regions have reported 1,751 coronavirus cases confirmed by PCR tests. That’s according to the latest official figures, which were released on Monday evening by the Health Ministry. The same indicator came in at 1,737 the day before, and 1,733 the day before that. The total number of confirmed infections since the crisis began in the country now stands at 244,109. Last night’s data shows that all regions and the North African exclave city of Melilla have detected at least one case in the last week.

Only three coronavirus patients have been admitted into intensive care in the last seven days

As always, there are various interpretations of the ministry data. The number of cases detected in the last 24 hours – which was 40 – has been falling for two days, having come in at 48 on Sunday and 130 on Saturday. The same happens if the number of total notifications over previous days is taken into account. Over the same days, these have fallen from 396 to 323 and then 181 on Monday. That could be due to the usual underreporting at weekends due to lower staffing levels in hospitals.

Madrid and Catalonia reported the most new cases in the last 24 hours, with 12 and 17, respectively.

In terms of Covid-19-related fatalities, the total is still yet to be updated and has been at 27,136 for several weeks now. Health Minister Salvador Illa said on Monday morning that the revision of the historical data will be released soon. Although the official total has not risen, the regions have reported 25 coronavirus deaths in the last seven days. In Sunday’s report this figure was 26, and on Saturday 27.

In terms of hospitalizations, the ministry registered 94 in the last week, of which only 11 were from the previous day.

The country’s intensive care units (ICUs) continue to be emptied of coronavirus patients. In the last seven days just three patients were admitted: in Castilla-La Mancha, Valencia and Madrid. On Saturday there were two admissions, in Castilla y León and Catalonia, and on Friday another two, in Cantabria and Madrid.
