In 2010 something happened spontaneously on the South Korean streaming platform AfreecaTV: hundreds of young people began to sit in front of their computers and narrate their daily lives on camera while eating. Almost always colorful dishes of carbohydrates, and more and more of it. The spontaneous phenomenon was called <i>mukbang</i>, a term that combines the Korean word for “food” (muk-da) with “broadcasting” (bang-song).
